“In the beginning, God created everything—and called it ‘exceedingly good.’ But wait… does that include the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? The serpent? The fall? If God is all-knowing, did He plan Adam’s failure? And if so… what does that mean for us?”
Scripture says God’s creation was perfect—yet right in the middle of Eden, He placed a forbidden tree… and the most cunning creature to tempt man. Why? Was God caught off guard when Adam and Eve sinned? Of course not.
“God neither slumbers nor sleeps. He knew—before the foundation of the world—what would happen. So why allow it? Romans 8:20 reveals: ‘The creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of Him(GOD) who subjected the same in hope.'” Because of Him:
The “Him” refers to God, who is the one who subjected creation to futility, not out of malice, but to allow for a greater and more perfect redemption in the future.
Amplified Translation: For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it—[yet] with the hope (Amplified Bible – Lockman)
NLT: Against its will, everything on earth was subjected to God’s curse. (NLT – Tyndale House)
Phillips: The world of creation cannot as yet see reality, not because it chooses to be blind, but because in God’s purpose it has been so limited – yet it has been given hope. (Phillips: Touchstone)
Wuest: for the creation was subjected to futility, not voluntarily, but on account of the One who put it under subjection upon the basis of the hope
Young’s Literal: for to vanity was the creation made subject — not of its will, but because of Him who did subject it — in hope,
God framed Adam’s fall. He planted the tree. He allowed the serpent. He ordained the struggle. Why? Because true wisdom—true righteousness—comes through the battle, not apart from it.
Think of it like this: As parents, we train our children. We correct them, guide them—sometimes even force them to learn right from wrong. Is that cruel? No! It’s love. And we? We are God’s children.
Here’s the shocking truth: We still carry Adam’s carnal mind. Before the fall, Adam and Eve were spiritually naked, not righteous, but untested. And when temptation came? Lust of the flesh. Lust of the eyes. Pride of life. Sound familiar?
That’s precisely how Eve fell—and how we fall today. The root of all sin? Desiring wisdom without God. Seeking good without His definition.
Isaiah 45:7: “I form light and create darkness; I make peace and create calamity.”
God allowed evil, not because He’s evil, but because His plan is greater. We learn through struggle. We grow through pressure. And one day? Every knee will bow, and every tongue confess: His way was perfect.
“God is sovereign” means God has ultimate authority, power, and control over everything in the universe. He is the ultimate ruler and source of all things. His sovereignty extends to both the creation and ongoing governance of the world, including both the good and the bad.
Part of creation involved God framing Adam and declaring it good. God’s plan is revealed through human struggles.
So don’t despair. You were meant to wrestle, to choose, to overcome. Because in the end? The same God who framed the fall… framed the redemption. And that is the greatest hope of all.
